Embracing Aliveness: Steps to Sowing a Sacred Spring
Apr 26, 2024
As the world awakens into its vibrant aliveness, Spring presents a sacred opportunity for renewal and growth. Energy and excitement are abundant. A powerful sense of possibility permeates. Every budding leaf, every skipping robin, and every waving tulip seems to ask, “What might we grow in the coming months? What blossoms and what fruit might we yield?” We can mindfully tap into this energy and use it to forge incredible pathways for our growth, expression, and experience. The following are some ideas to cultivate an Intentional Spring through reconnection, goal setting, replenishing, self-care, and gratitude. Following even a few steps that call to you can help create a foundation for intentional growth that will support your overall health and well-being throughout the coming months.
- Reconnect: In the natural world, Spring is a time of renewal, growth, and reconnection. It is the perfect time to practice the mindful rejoining of various parts of our lives. There are many levels where this practice might be beneficial. We might find that we wish to reconnect to our artistic impulses by picking up a forgotten hobby or adventuring into some new, creative experience. We might feel called back into community with friends, family, and neighbors. The whispers of nature herself might also be heard, felt as a yearning to gently interact with the vibrant, living world.
As you notice these tender longings, pay attention. Get quiet and listen. Then mindfully experiment with an intentional act of reconnection. Take a long walk with a friend. Go outside and focus on your surroundings. Dig out that journal or dust off the watercolors. Put your hands into the earth and feel the grass beneath your feet. Take a deep breath in the cool, crisp, air. Reach out to someone. Create. Converse. Whatever impulses you follow, remain present in the moment and observe. Note those sacred moments when you have a sense of "coming home." How can you make more room for these moments in your life? - Set Goals: Spring is a fantastic time to set new goals and intentions for yourself. It is also the perfect season to re-invigorate and renew older aspirations that may have fallen by the wayside. Take some time to reflect on what you want to grow in the coming months. Write down your vision and brainstorm strategies to get yourself there. Let it be a plan filled with lots of wiggle room and curiosity. Just like the plants that reach toward the sun, you will undoubtedly have to bend and twist and play with the world around you as you grow toward your goals. Adaptation to the environment and present needs is a healthy and necessary part of life. By tapping into the youthful energy, excitement, and flexibility of spring you can stay easefully focused on your growth throughout the coming months.
- Replenish: Spring is a great time to focus on nourishing your body with fresh, seasonal foods filled with vital nutrients. There is such an abundance of local, nutrient-packed greens and veggies! Practice mindful eating by paying attention to the flavors, textures, and sensations you experience. Notice your level of hydration and focus on sipping water throughout the day. Eat slowly, savoring each bite, and avoid distractions like your phone or computer. You could even connect with the abundance of Mother Earth by trying some safe, guided foraging for delicacies of the season! These practices can all help you develop a healthier relationship with food and support your physical and emotional well-being.
- Embrace Extra Self-Care: I always try to give my house-plant babies extra love in the spring, knowing that they will need it during the growth they are about to experience. I repot them in fresh soil and snip away the dried-out and dead leaves. I wipe away the dust and provide extra fertilizer. For us too, Spring is a time of renewal and growth, and it’s important to set up an abundant foundation. We must prioritize self-care during this season. Take time each day to do something that nourishes your body, mind, or soul, mindful of the growth you will experience in the coming months. This intentional care could be anything from taking a relaxing bath to practicing yoga to reading a book. Maybe abhyanga (oil massage) sounds helpful or remembering to practice good sleep hygiene feels right. Listen to your inner wisdom. Look for what has worked well for you in the past and think about how you might apply it now. Try something new. Whatever you choose, be sure that it makes you feel fantastic and aligns with the growth you wish to support.
- Practice Mindful Gratitude: Take time each day to reflect on what you are grateful for. Write your thoughts in a journal or make it a habit to share them with a loved one. This practice helps you focus on the positive aspects of your life and cultivate a sense of contentment. Spring is all about fresh starts; put your energy toward what you appreciate and want to grow more of this season. Invite the practice of sacred appreciation into your life and watch what blooms.
As we embrace this glorious season, let’s use this wonderful opportunity to tap into the energy of excitement, renewal, abundance, and possibility. By incorporating even a few mindful practices into our routines, we can create a foundation for intentional growth that deeply supports our well-being in the coming months. Mindfully reconnecting, setting goals, replenishing our bodies, practicing self-care, and cultivating gratitude align with all that this beautiful season offers. Let’s create an Incredible, Intentional Spring for ourselves!!
